Decision Making

Day 2 in the Life Education van with Ben. As we continued our learning, we moved from alcohol to decision making in life.  Today we learnt how people decide to do things. For example, people choosing to drink or not. We learnt that if people drink alcohol it creates fake Gaba a feeling that makes them happy. After learning about Gaba and alcohol we discussed about choices and decisions.

Before making a choice of decision you have to get information, see what influences you and think about the consequences. After learning about decisions we watched a little video about Anna.
She has to decide whether  to go to the skate park with her friends or pick up her sister like she said. She ends up going with her friends instead. When they get there, they up with some other friends. They pull out a packet of cigarette and asks Anna if she wants one. She has another decision to make whether to smoke it or not.  What do you think she will do? We will continue watching the video tomorrow at our next lesson.

Our Body System

We learnt a lot of interesting facts in the Life Education van from Ben and Harold the giraffe.

Our Body

Intestines, Brains, Heart, Lungs, Kidney, Spinal Cord, Stomach and Livers are all part of our bodies. They all have special things to do. Amazing right. I never thought that these organs do so  much for us.

Like intestines, they squeeze all the food we eat and send it out to our blood. Same goes with our heart, it tilts to our left and now our lungs are uneven to make space for it. Our left lung is a bit smaller than our right lung. Or our kidney is like our sophisticated trash collector. The kidneys main job is to clean out our blood and removes liquid waste from our body which turns into urines (wee). Also our spinal cord helps us move around in any sort of ways.

Alcohol:

If people drink alcohol there could be a chance that there will an accident.
Like a car crash or death… Alcohol is bad for our body. It can slow all the messages that the brain sends. It will be harder for the heart to function blood around our body. It will be a longer process for the liver to clean out the alcohol from body. But we can’t stop others from because it is their choice, but we can help if there is a problem.

When someone is too drunk we must check their pulse to see if there heart is beating slow or fast. We should also take away their alcohol. We should always lie them on the side so they don’t choke on their vomit and die. We should also never let fall asleep because their brain might shut down...

Archmedia

Today, we were invited to give our own ideas for the community (Glen Innes) Music and Art Centre.
The name's of the visitors were:
Debbie - Landscaper
Jo - Sustainability
Lindsay (Man) - Architect
Vanessa - Auckland Council.

Lindsay asked us to write our ideas on the paper. Autymn and I worked together. We tried so hard to think of good ideas.
After we had written them down, Lindsay asked some kids to share. There were lots of good ideas but I think the best one was a community garden around the building.

After that, Debbie talked about the Landscape. The Maori symbols on the landscape represented the things they were going to build there. She had awesome ideas. I thought they were great.
Jo talked about how we can clean the river to keep the creatures that live there, healthy. She also said that we will be using water from the rain and getting electricity from the heat of the Sun to keep things going

After they spoke we had to put more ideas. My idea was to reuse recycling to make things out of it.
When we all finished Britney said a short speech on behalf of room 11 and 12.
As she ended they said thank you and then we packed up and went to class.

Soup Making

WoW! What another surprise!!!!

On Tuesday the fourth of September we had soup making in the hall.

There were different kinds of  soup that all the classes made.
Room 12 made potatoe and leek soup. Room 09 made pumpkin with pasta and the rest of the classes made pumpkin with other ingredients.

Each class got the chance to make their soup with the teacher aids.
Room12 got to peel the potatoes and cut the leeks themselves.
When everyone finished we helped room 07 set the hall with tables surrounded by chairs.

After a few minutes all the classes came to  the hall to eat their tasty soup.
Before we ate Melissa  said a Kara Kia. When she said amen we all started digging into the soup.
I tasted the potato and leek soup and oh my gosh it was so DELICIOUS.
No offence, and sorry to disappoint you Miss Barry,
At first when I looked at the soup it looked like mashed worms and snails with rotten milk.
But it was so delicious that I went for two rounds.

Some kids wasted their pumpkin soup or they did not even taste it. That was a disappointment for me.
There were some leftovers in the pot.

After all that delicious soup it made me full.

My Most Memorable Moment

Bing- The most memorable moment of my life is hearing that New Zealand won 3 Gold medal so far. I know that other countries are beating New Zealand but at least they tried.

Bang- The other memorable moment is seeing Usain Bolt win in the 100 metre race. As I was watching Usain Bolt win it made me think that he is the world's fastest sprinter and that he worked very hard to get the Olympic games.

Bong- The other memorable moment of my is hearing the twins win the rowing. They received Gold medals. I was proud they represented for New Zealand.

MAKING SANDWICHES

WoW! What A Surprise, Glen Innes School had a healthy sandwich making day because

1. It's a healthy eating month and
2. It's healthy for our body.

Yesterday Mr. Naidoo prepared the hall with many pictures that showed us healthy food, tables surrounded by chairs and a huge yellow banner. I was so shocked to hear that Pak'nSave sponsored us for our Healthy Eating Month.

Mr. Hendricks told us that Mr. Naidoo went and spoke to the Manager of Pak'nSave about our healthy eating month. It was very helpful of him to do that for us.

Before we received our bread and fillings Mr. Hendricks said an opening prayer. When he was finished, the teacher aids came out with some Bread, Lettuces, Carrots, Cucumbers, Tuna with Apple and some Hams.

Once the girls got their bread and fillings they started looking for nice lettuce, yummy carrots and fresh green cucumber. After getting their fillings they added some yellow cheddar cheese and tuna. When they finished they waited for someone to eat first and Chloe was the first to eat, so we all ate our sandwiches too.

After eating three sandwiches I was full that I did not want to do anything. Room 11 and 12 helped stack the chairs and pack away the tables. Tre, Kaz, Sameera and I stayed to sweep the floor because the floor was so messy.

I can't wait to make soup next week. I hope it is as nice as the sandwich. Yesterday was awesome and I had so much
